Being a part of Hughes Middle School Sports is considered an honor. Students selected to represent the school do so with the expectation they will demonstrate scholarly behavior in the classroom, on the court, track and/or field.
Students wishing to compete in a sport must complete an eligibility process. This process includes maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and not having more than one unsatisfactory conduct grade in their citizenship. Students must also submit a clearance packet which includes a recent physical examination and proof of insurance.
Most sports at Hughes are highly competitive with a limited number of students that will be selected to any team. The tryout process will take place approximately two weeks prior to the start of each season. Announcements will be made in school bulletins and Physical Education classes regarding dates, times, and locations.

*All students are encouraged and welcomed to participate in Hughes Cross Country Team. For Cross Country, no student is turned away and there is no eligibility process. Training begins in mid-April and the All-City Cross-Country Meet is held mid-May.
We are proud of our athletic excellence at Hughes and welcome all students to challenge themselves to reap the benefits of participating in interscholastic sports.
